What is adoption?
Adoption is an act of love that creates legal and affective links for life. It is a different way to have a boy or girl, by assuming all the rights and duties that implies to have a kid.
Who can adopt a boy or girl?
In Peru, Peruvian or foreign married couples or single persons can adopt a boy, girl or teen. People who just live together can’t do it because marriage is a must according to our laws in order to secure the best interest of the kid; in order to give him (her) emotional, material and legal stability.
Which are the evaluating criteria?
The evaluating criteria are:
- People who wish to adopt shall be emotionally stable, optimistic, self-confident, with affective capacity, and having respect for the boy or girl they want to adopt.
- They shall demonstrate moral values and have normal intellectual resources, economic stability and home; so that the kid to be adopted gets a guaranteed environment.
- Their ages must be among 25 and 55 years old.
Can you choose the boy or girl to be adopted?
No. According to our system, it is the National Secretariat of Adoptions who proposes the girl or boy for the adopting couple. They have three options in the waiting list.
This goes along with the criteria that a normal family doesn’t choose the characteristics of the kid they are going to have, they just accept the arrival of this new person to their lives.
Can you choose the kid older than 9 years old or teen to be adopted?
According to the current campaign of the National Secretariat of Adoptions “Ángeles que aguardan” (Expecting angels), in order to facilitate the integration of these minors to a family, the family can choose them.
Which are the priorities in the waiting list?
Couples that have priority in the list are those that are willing to receive:
- A mentally or physically challenged boy, a girl or teen.
- A boy or a girl older than 5.
- A group of siblings.
This means that their request for adoption will be checked before than others. |
